It's that time again! The youth from Centerville Presbyterian Church, along with a handful of intrepid adult leaders, are going on a short term mission trip to Mexico over spring break this year. A dedicated group of 16 are going to caravan for the better part of two days of driving to reach Agua Viva in the outskirts of Ensenada Mexico.
To prepare for the trip we have had several meetings where we've learned about culture, language, and ways to connect with the people we meet. We have done fund raising along with the preparation to be able to fund work projects for the week. Because of the fluid nature of missionary work, we do not have an idea of what the need will be when we are in Mexico but we know that we will do our best to complete whatever challenge they give us. In the past we have pulled weeds, built an awning, sheetrocked several cabins, painted large buildings, and (a group favorite) demolished a building!
I will try to capture some of the highlights and activities of the trip and will even try to coax some of the participants to add their own thoughts in the process. Unless the camp has had a drastic upgrade in their WiFi capabilities communication will be sporadic at best. In fact, the last time I was sending updates from Agua Viva I needed to stand in the middle of the road and hold the laptop over my head at times. I will do whatever I can to keep everyone updated on our trip.
We leave Easter morning just after the church service. Until then we are asking, if you would like to, to pray for the success of our trip. We are asking for safety for all involved, smooth passage at the border, and most importantly that God's Kingdom is advanced according to His will.
